HIGH COUNTRY â The High Country Food Hub is excited to announce that customers can now text-for-pickup.
No longer do local food customers need to wait in long lines in the rain, wind, and snow. Food Hub customers can now wait comfortably in their car and text Food Hub staff when they arrive.
âI like the Food Hub s new texting service. Now that the cold weather has arrived, I appreciate that I can arrive at the Food Hub, send a text, and arrange to pick up my order â all without leaving my car. And instead of spending time waiting in line, I can answer some emails or get other work done. Every week I thank the Food Hub staff for their ingenuity,â stated Joseph Gonzalez, a long-time Food Hub Customer.
Cheers: To State Sen. Ana Marie Rodriguez for voting against the cruise ship bill, although she submitted, but then withdrew, an amendment exempting Key West because of its status as a State Area of Critical Concern. Key West residents should keep a close eye on the progression of the Senate and House bills, both of which fly in the face of votes for referendums in last Novemberâs elections.
Cheers: To the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for its ongoing investigation into one, and possibly another, local labor supply company. These companies have been skirting the law for years and have artificially suppressed wages. However, the crackdown itself is having some impact on local businessesâ abilities to operate.
LAGRANGE â With construction season just around the corner, Mark Leu, the CEO of LaGrange County REMC, said his staff is busy making preparations to begin building a new fiber-optic network that will bring high-speed internet to rural LaGrange County.
âWeâre gearing up for construction,â Leu said. âWeâre in the process of lining up contractors and completing the final design and procuring all the materials. At this point, weâre looking at starting construction on our backbone in the early part of June.â
REMC announced it was planning to jump into the world of high-speed internet provider when it sought a $5 million grant from LaGrange County and its Major Moves Fund. The company said it needed that money to help it arrange for the rest of the financing it would need to create the new network.
